We have to charge a reasonable price for the software. Otherwise, we won't be able to improve Equator, or create and make available other educational software.

During our first year we granted Equator licenses free of charge, asking only for regular feedback in return. However, a license was still required, in order to use the software. Our users informed us that they found this inconvenient. They suggested instead an open trial period without registration. Of course this requires us to trust our users to do the right thing, and to purchase a license after the period of evaluation has ended. So many did during that first year! That's why we instituted the Equator Code of Honor.
